My name is Matt Trostle and my intention with this site is to help you succeed in building a business online. Not only do you need to know how to run your business, but yourself as well. A lot of personal development is required when building an online business. Seems like an uphill battle at times.
Designing websites is normally the fun part for me. It's those tasks that aren't so fun that get put off until.... Just so happens that those are the tasks that separate you from success. I think Mark Twain had it right when he said, "Do something every day that you don't want to do; this is the golden rule for acquiring the habit of doing your duty without pain."
I remember reading somewhere that building an online business is really a course in personal development, disguised as a business. That has stuck with me over the years, and I truly believe it. As a matter of fact, learning about internet marketing was how I backed into personal development.
Internet Marketing
I've dabbled in internet marketing for about seven years, making it a sort of hobby. I always had the aspirations to make a living at it but just couldn't find my niche, nothing got me extremely excited.
Somewhere down the line I came across a company called Site Build It (SBI!). I kept them in mind, but didn't want to start using them yet. SBI's President and founder, Ken Evoy, kept emphasizing the work that needed to be done when building your business online. Pshaa... "Naa," I said, "I'll do something else that's not so much work, then I'll come back and do the Site Build It thing."
So after a couple of years of trying "get rich quick" plans, I came back to SBI! This is where I should have started, I'd be so much further ahead. You know what they say about hindsight!
The amount of information SBI provides is phenomenal, and the amount of help you receive in the online forums in nothing short of amazing! I have yet to come across a another group this knowledgeable and willing to help.
I began to learn about SEO (search engine optimization) from SBI. And in turn, that knowledge catapulted me into a position where my hobby became my career when I landed a job as the internet marketing strategiest for an Internet Retailer Top 500 company. So, in reality, I owe the launch of my career to Site Build It. How do I know it wasn't my degree that got me hired? Because I don't have one. :o)
I have since gone on to start my own internet marketing and web design business, with a few other affiliate marketing things on the side.
Relationship Marketing
I decided to build an SBI site around a network marketing business. I like the network marketing business model, but didn't like most of the things they were selling. I just didn't like the idea of selling pills or lotions or long distance service. Greeting cards? Hmm, might have something here... This company introduced me to "relationship marketing" and how to use greeting cards to do it. So I've built my site around that concept, marketing to small business owners.
It's simple really, it's your own greeting card catalog! You pick your card, customize it and hit send. They print it, stuff it in an envelope, put a stamp on it and send it via U.S. Mail! One of the best features, for me especially, is the reminder system. I'll never forget another birthday again!! lol
I read this letter by Ken Evoy that talked about how powerful the connection between the internet and network marketing could be. "Could be" because hardly anyone is doing it this way! Build a website using SBI that generates traffic for my network marketing business!
